McDonalds and Preschool Anaphylaxis Tactics - Episode #6
This week I recount a story of mine relating to food allergies and McDonalds, and I answer a viewers email regarding handling food allergies of a 2yr old.
PS. It would be great to get more feedback from you about what you think of ASTV, or what you would like me to cover.
Give me your most burning question about food allergies and I’ll answer it on the show.

Thanks for such an informative site. I have a 4 year old daughter who is allergic to dairy, egg and peanut (but thankfully not anaphylactic). However it was still life changing for our family. I think it is great that you are doing these blogs, it is important for people to realise that they are not the only one’s out there dealing with food allergy.
Do you think that the highly processed and additive laden diet that is generally consumed by Australians has partly caused the increase of food allergies in children today? I often wonder if my diet whilst pregnant may have contributed to Hannah’s allergies.

Good question I think I’ll mention it on the next show.

Aaron,
Congratulations on your TV posts…they are great. I just wanted to add my support to your reader Lindsay. My son is also 2 years old and anaphylactic to dairy, so I totally understand where she is coming from. Some days the anxiety is overwhelming, and it seems like just when I do let my guard down something always seems to happen! (Like the weekend just past, when I washed my sons hands with hand wash at a friends house - (of course it was milk and honey hand wash, and gave him hives!)
The best thing I can do is continually remind my son (and anyone else within earshot) that he can’t have milk/chocolate etc because it will make him very sick….kids don’t like feeling sick and this seems to get part of the message through.
And on the topic of daycare, we have found a wonderful centre with understanding and experience with anaphylaxis. I am not sure where Lindsay is from but I would be happy for you to forward her my email address to contact me directly if she ever wanted to talk.
Kind Regards
Toni Casey
Hi. Great site you have here. My son is allergic to milk, eggs, peanuts, and tree nuts. Milk is his worst allergy, it’s the one that has sent him to the ER more times than I care to remember. If Lindsey is around I’d like her to know that we successfully managed preschool and daycare with all of my son’s allergies since he was 4 months old. He’s almost 7 years old now. At any rate, our kids can indeed go to preschool. I agree with Aaron, you just have to work with the teachers to implement some procedural things, and all should work out.
Thanks for your comments. Glad my show is being enjoyed. Aaron
